Rise of the Empire
Ahsoka Tano
taken from the Clone Wars Episode "Defenders of Peace"
This young, female Togruta was believed to have been Anakin Skywalker's
first apprentice. Ahsoka was discovered on Shili by Jedi Master
Plo Koon,
and was transported to Coruscant for training. Like many younglings of the
time, Ahsoka was elevated to the rank of Padawan quite early, in the
hopes that there would be enough Jedi Knights available to assist the
Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. However, Ahsoka was
one of only a few Padawans who were not chosen by their teachers.
Instead, she was dispatched to the planet Christophsis and ordered to
report to Anakin Skywalker.

Ahsoka was also given a second message, this one for
Obi-Wan Kenobi,
detailing Jabba the Hutt's request for Jedi assistance in rescuing his
kidnapped offspring, Rotta. Both Kenobi and Skywalker believed that
Ahsoka had been sent to Christophsis to become Obi-Wan's new student,
so Skywalker was more than confused when Ahsoka revealed that she was
now his Padawan. Skywalker gruffly argued that he didn't have time for a
Padawan, and that a youngling would only slow him down. However, this
was exactly what the Jedi Council wanted. Chosing Ahsoka as Skywalker's
Padawan was a move that
Master Yoda hoped would teach Anakin about
dealing with attachments. The Council believed that Anakin had not fully let
go of his attachment to his mother, and believed that he might learn about
letting go when Ahsoka was eventually trained enough to take the Trials
and become an independent Jedi Knight.

While Skywalker fumed, Ahsoka was taken aside by clone Commander
Rex, who explained the situation to her and gave her valuable advice
about dealing with Skywalker. Rather than demanding attention, Rex
explained, she needed to prove herself to her new teacher. Ahsoka tried to
temper her exuberance, and Skywalker eventually accepted her, after she
agreed to carry Rotta the Huttlet out of a Separatist base. Their escape
was blocked by
Asajj Ventress, who decimated the clone troopers in an
attempt to get to Skywalker. When Anakin refused to sacrifice Rex and the
other survivors to keep Rotta alive, Ahsoka quickly questioned the military
logic in his thinking. Although she believed the mission was tantamount to
the clones' survival, Ahsoka could not bring herself to leave Rex and the
others behind.

During their escape from Teth, Ahsoka was forced to engage Ventress in
lightsaber combat, allowing Anakin time to capture a mega-insect that they
could ride to safety. After escaping from Teth with Rotta in their care,
Ahsoka and Anakin were dispatched to join Admiral Wullf Yularen and the
flagship Resolute on a series of missions to track down General Grievous.
Ahsoka kept a close watch on her Master's actions, serving alternately as
his supporter and a voice of reason. Her youthful exuberance was often
tempered by the realities of the war, but she never seemed to lose her
trust in the general good of the galaxy. This trait nearly caused the
Republic a lot of trouble when R2-D2 was lost near Bothawui, and Anakin
was forced to accept the droid R3-S6 as a replacement. Ahsoka
befriended the odd little astromech, giving it the nickname Goldie and
doing her best to put a positive spin on its inability to follow orders.

Ahsoka realized R3-S6 was working for the Separatists during the mission
to disable Skytop Station. On the remote outpost, Ahsoka was forced to
battle General Grievous himself in order to ensure the safety of her
clones, who were planting explosives throughout the station. After
recovering R2-D2 from Skytop Station, Anakin ordered Ahsoka to travel to
Rodia and assist
Luminara Unduli in transporting Nute Gunray to
Coruscant for trial. Although she resented being sent on a simple errand
instead of remaining on the front lines, but she obeyed Anakin's orders.
Working with Master Unduli, Ahsoka pretended to lose patience during
Gunray's interrogation, and her threat to use her lightsaber against him
got him ready to talk. However, the betrayal of Captain Argyus gave
Gunray a reason to keep his mouth shut, and the Jedi were forced to do
everything they could to keep Gunray in custody. Ultimately, Asajj Ventress
was able to ensure Gunray's escape, and the Jedi were forced to regroup.
